The United Democratic Party on Sunday wrapped up its caretaker conventions across the country with the endorsement of Franklin Polonio in Toledo East. Executive members as well as delegates were also sworn in. Sr. Toledo Correspondent, Paul Mahung travelled to Forest Home Village for the story.
Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: “Endorsement ceremony for new caretaker and executives of UDP Toledo East was held in this district at Sunday’s 9 p.m. endorsement ceremony, officiated by former UDP Punta Gorda Mayor Ashton Mackenzie.”
Ashton McKenzie, Former UDP PG Mayor: “We have officially installed the new executive for the Toledo East constituency for the UDP, United Democratic Party. Installed today as the new caretaker is Mr. Franklin Polonio, affectionately known as “Kranka”, along with his executive, which comprises of 15 delegates and three alternates. The executive committee for every constituency is sort of like the brain, it’s the organizing body, which is tasked with responsibility to ensure readiness of the party for municipal elections, village council elections, to mobilize efforts when it comes to registrations, transfers, and also other activities, and of course to be a voice for the people of the constituency. So, this body here plays a very important role, and of course the persons installed here hails from various parts of the constituency. It’s a very diverse committee comprising of folks diverse in ethnicity as well as experience.”

Franklin “Kranka” Polonio, UDP Toledo East Caretaker: “ Who are here tonight, Thank You for coming. The work has just begun. If we want to be victorious and of course, you know, I think that we have people out here who are serious and ready to move the party forward. Like I said, our biggest vision is to get into every corner of Toledo East. Right? And without you we have to work, or else we’re going nowhere. Right? And that’s the reason why I believe in you all, I believe in the people of Toledo East and then let’s move forward and let’s do it. You know? And of course, the people need us right now because right now, things are rough right now. People need us, you know what I’m saying? So, thanks very much. I appreciate it.”

In a media release, Leader of the Opposition, Tracy Panton expressed gratitude to both candidates and supporters who participated and or assisted with the conventions. She added, “With the Caretaker Conventions now behind us, we move forward with purpose and determination toward our UDP Leadership Convention on November 30, 2025. Your active participation and continued involvement in our collective efforts to rebuild the Party are both welcome and necessary. We are indeed Stronger Together. United, we can guard against the injustices that now prevail and do the work required to become the next Government whenever the General Elections are called.
