Two time champions the West Indies were knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup after losing to South Africa by three wickets under the Duckworth/Lewis method in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Windies batted first and posted 135 for 8 off their 20 overs, with Roston Chase, 52, Kyle Mayers, 35, and Andre Russell, 15, making most runs. Tabraiz Shamsi bagged 3 for 27 bowling for South Africa.
A rain interruption at the start of South Africa’s reply caused them to to be set a revised target of 123 off 17 overs. They achieved victory at 124 for 7.
Tristan Stubb contributed 29, Heinrich Klaasen, 22, and Marco Jansen, who hit a six to bring up victory, was left not out 21. There were three wickets for Chase and two each for Russell and Alzarri Joseph.
The defeat means the West Indies finished third in the group behind the South Africans and England.
Captain Rovman Powell says despite the defeat his players fought to the end.
Powell says the players are determined to build on what they achieved over the past 12 months.
