WI Make Nervy Start to Home T20 World Cup

The West Indies will be back in the nets this morning, one day after making a successful start to their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup.

The two time champions registered a nervy five wicket win over debutantes Papua New Guinea, PNG, at Providence in Guyana.

Sese Bau, 50, and Kiplin Doriga, 27, made most runs for PNG who posted 136 for 8 in their 20 overs. Andre Russell and vice captain Alzarri Joseph took two wickets apiece.

The West Indies replied with 137 for 5 in 19 overs, after needing 40 runs to win from the last 24 balls.

Roston Chase was left unbeaten on 42 while Brandon King made 34 against captain Assad Vala’s 2 for 24.

The West Indies will next be in action on Saturday against Uganda, also at Providence.

The World Cup continues today with a big clash between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the Nassau County Ground in New York starting at 9.30 am.
