Woman Injured in Carmelita Highway Crash Involving SUV and Motorcycle

Police are investigating a traffic accident that occurred Saturday evening on the Philip Goldson Highway near Carmelita Village in the Orange Walk District, leaving a 21-year-old woman injured.  According to reports, around 5:00 p.m., a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara, driven by a 53-year-old Belizean salesman, collided with the rear of a black Lifan motorcycle as both vehicles traveled north toward Orange Walk Town. Investigators say the collision happened when the motorcyclist allegedly made a sudden left turn without signaling, resulting in the SUV striking her from behind.  The impact caused the young woman to fall onto the pavement, suffering abrasions to her face, knee, and elbow. She was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where her condition is listed as stable.  Police have served the SUV driver with a notice of intended prosecution, while the motorcyclist has been charged for operating an unregistered and unlicensed motorcycle. Additionally, the motorcycle’s owner, a 23-year-old teacher, has been cautioned for permitting an unlicensed person to drive her vehicle.
